(Atlanta, GA) – On Tuesday, April 2WL at 10:00 a.m. the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) will be having a press conference in the office of Representative Butch Parrish, room 218 in the Capitol. NACA will pack the office with supporters and predatory lending victims who will talk about how they were preyed upon by unscrupulous lenders who promised to help them but set them up for financial devastation and the likely loss of their home.
Representative Parrish, Chairman of the House Banking Committee, has supported numerous amendments to undermine this important legislation that would protect the homes of hard-working Georgians. Mr. Parrish will not be able to avoid the NACA Members who have led the fight to pass one of the nations strongest anti-predatory legislation. Hundreds of NACA members in the yellow “Stop the Loan Shark” shirts have convinced and where necessary confronted legislators who have been swayed by the lenders’ contributions and inside connections.
“Mr. Parrish will hear directly from predatory lending victims and NACA.” states Bruce Marks NACA’s CEO. “Representative Parrish, as a House leader and a member of the conference committee, needs to decide whether he stands with the lending lobby or the people of Georgia.”
NACA began the public campaign to pass the Predatory Lending Bill (HB1316) on February 14º, Valentines Day, when hundreds of NACA Members participated in the first ever refinancing of a predatory loan in the Georgia State Capitol. Now this legislation is nearing passage. The Senate is set to pass it and the house will have a second chance to pass predatory legislation without Chairman Parrish’s amendments that would destroy the bill.
